This page will contain downloads of documents relation to navigation aids used by the Luftwaffe. Principally these documents will be appearing courtesy of Ronald van Riet who has spent a considerable amount of time researching the subject.
Dreieckrechner
This document describes the Knemeyer Dreieckrechner, its continuing development from 1936 until well after WWII, the versions in which it was produced both in Germany and elsewhere, and shows how it was used for the most important air navigation tasks.
The document is very much a living document, any additions are welcome via e-mail to Ronald van Riet (ronald.at.van-riet.dot.nl). The document will be updated at irregular intervals as and when new information will become available.
The current version is dated August 2009.
Position Line Slide Rules
This document describes the British Bygrave Position Line Slide Rule and its German descendants HR1, MHR1 and HR2 used during WWII, and shows how it was used for celestial navigation. Also included in the document is an introduction to celestial navigation.
